Who we are

Amble is a companionship service that connects older adults and their families with warm, vetted companions for regular visits and social support. Amble provides companionship and social support only — not personal care, nursing, or medical care.

This site and service are operated by Amble Companions Ltd ("Amble", "we", "us"), a company registered in England & Wales (company no. 17357800), registered office 3 Ridings Barn, Loxwood Road, Alfold, Cranleigh GU6 8EW. For anything about your data, contact us at hello@amblecompanions.com.

For the purposes of UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018), Amble Companions Ltd is the data controller for the personal information described here.

The information we collect

Right now, Amble is at an early stage and we mainly collect what you give us when you join. Depending on which form you use:

If you join the waitlist (families / older adults): your name, email address, the town or postcode area you're in, the interests you tell us about, and whether you'd like to hear from us.

If you register interest as a companion: your name, email, phone number, the area you cover and how far you'll travel, your interests, your general availability, a short "about you", and whether you'd like to hear from us.

We also collect basic technical information automatically when you visit the website (for example your device type and general location from your IP address), through our website host and any analytics we use, to keep the site working and understand how it's used.

As Amble grows and you use the full service, we'll collect more — for example profile details, booking and visit information, and payment details. When that happens we'll update this policy and, where needed, ask for your consent.

Why we use it, and our legal basis

We use your information to: respond to your sign-up and keep you on the waitlist or companion list, so we can tell you when we reach your area or when there's a match (legal basis: our legitimate interest in running and building the service you asked to join, and taking steps at your request); contact you with updates about Amble, if you've said we can (legal basis: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time); vet and approve companions as we grow, through interviews, references and background checks (legal basis: our legitimate interest in safety and, where relevant, legal obligation; some checks involve more sensitive information which we handle with extra care and, where required, your explicit consent); and keep the website secure and working (legal basis: our legitimate interest in a safe, functioning service).

We do not sell your personal information to anyone.

Marketing

We'll only send you marketing emails if you've opted in. Every marketing email has an easy unsubscribe link, and you can also ask us to stop any time at hello@amblecompanions.com. Withdrawing consent doesn't affect anything we did before you withdrew it.

Who we share it with

We keep your information to ourselves and the trusted providers that help us run Amble — for example our website platform, our database and email providers, and (as we grow) identity/background-check and payment providers. These providers only process your information on our instructions and under contract.

We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect someone's safety, or if the business is reorganised or sold. We'll always aim to tell you if that meaningfully affects your data.

Some providers may process data outside the UK. Where they do, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as UK-approved contract terms) to keep your data protected.

How long we keep it

We keep sign-up information for as long as you're on the waitlist or companion list and for a reasonable period afterwards, then delete or anonymise it. If you ask us to remove you, we'll do so promptly (keeping only the minimum we're legally required to).

Keeping your information safe

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information — access is restricted, sensitive data is kept separate and protected, and our database enforces strict access rules so public sign-up forms can only add a record, never read others'. No system is ever perfectly secure, but we take this seriously and keep improving it.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to: access a copy of your information; ask us to correct it; ask us to delete it; object to or ask us to restrict certain uses; withdraw consent where we relied on it; and ask for your data in a portable format. To exercise any of these, email hello@amblecompanions.com and we'll respond within the legal timeframe (usually one month).

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, please tell us first so we can put it right — but you also have the right to complain to the UK regulator, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), at ico.org.uk.

Children

Amble is a service for adults. It's not intended for anyone under 18, and we don't knowingly collect information about children.

Cookies & analytics

Our website uses a small number of cookies and similar technologies to work properly and to help us understand how the site is used.

Coming soon

As we open the full booking service, this policy will grow to cover profiles, bookings, visit records, payments and messaging. We'll post an updated version here and, where the change is significant, let you know directly.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top always shows the current version.
